Dr. James Mushori, PhD, is an accomplished scholar and development expert with 15 years’ experience in both private and public sectors having implemented projects spearheaded by civil society organizations, private and public sectors in Kenya. At Olmanyara Tilil (OT), Dr. Mushori is tasked with development of high quality, innovative programmes that deliver immediate and lasting change with respect to climate change and environmental conservation.


He provides leadership in the design and monitoring of all programmes and ensures technical support and guidance to OT board and technical/implementation team. He is responsible for operationalization of OT’s Theory of Change (ToC), including development and review of behavior change (COM-B) models and MEL framework (e.g review, collection and reporting of output and outcome indicator).


He leads delivery of Responsive Research Project on adaptation and regeneration, including commissioning of work, management of contracts and relationships, knowledge management, dissemination and results reporting. He also oversees delivery of all qualitative/quantitative research led by Research Team. This includes drafting and/or quality assuring terms of reference, scopes of work, reviewing proposals and providing quality assurance and oversight of local partners.


He was instrumental in monitoring and evaluating a Global Fund KP REACH project in eight Southern African Countries delivered via a consortium of HIVOS South Africa Hub and ASWA Alliance. Agricultural Productivity and Agribusiness Project (KAPAP). He is a registered and practicing Environmental Lead Expert by National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). He is a professional member of Environment Institute of Kenya (MEIK) and Kenya Association of Project Managers (MKAPM). He has working knowledge of World Bank, USAID and Global Fund programmes and projects reporting procedures. He has passion for organizational capacity development and data analytics to inform critical decision that influence implementation of Theory of Change with respect to climate change. Dr. Mushori possesses excellent knowledge of institutional development issues, civil society capacity building and advocacy, citizen engagement and grants management.


Dr. Mushori is an adjunct lecturer at the University of Nairobi in the department of Management Science and Project Planning, and Chairman of the Board at Agency for Child Resilience and Aid (ACRA-Kenya). He is a reviewer of three International Journals which include International Journal of Environment and Climate Change, International Journal of Construction Management and Asian Journal of Education and Social Studies.


He holds a PHD in Project Planning and Management (PMM), specializing in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) from the University of Nairobi (UoN) and a Master’s degree in PPM with a bias in Environmental Issues in PPM from UoN. He is also an alumnus of Egerton University where he studied Bachelor of Science in Community Development (CDEV).
